A Very Merry Unbirthday to you!
A blog dedicated to a girl plunging head first into the most terrifying world known to man.

The Fashion World.

Follow me as I create new designs, mock lines, sew bustles and weld metal hoop skirts. Which will hopefully lead to my first Fashion Show in May.

Applying to FIDM in the fall.

Guess who just went to Mood! Walking out with 9 yards and three different fabrics. Time to finish this dress.

A fitted, structured, leather jacket with a small tail. I’m not sure about the fabric of the cropped pants yet, but I want them to bunch slightly at the bottom and be loose fitted, like a boyfriend-fit.

Both sketches were done on an iPad.

The basic outline to a design I’m working on. It’ll basically be a satin silver-blue tinted corset, with a tutu. The left over satin fabric will be cut into ribbons and draped around the leg and arm. It’s not pictured here, but I’m also creating a small feminine top hat to be this garments accessory.

An Update:

Have you ever had that moment in your design life when you make a bunch of designs, love them, and are all set to sew them..when you wake up weeks later and realize you actually hate them?

Yeah.

Spitting out a bunch of designs this weekend, then going to Mood in NYC for fabrics next weekend. Pfft.

An Update:

So, I attempted welding a hoop skirt purely from my own lack of experience. Needless to say, it didn’t turn out well. Boning the corset was significantly easier. The man I’m working with on sewing the designs had a clever idea instead of welding, and more looping iron wires around each rod to hold it together. The only problem is the front of the skirt will be displayed as the skirt itself. So, looks like I’m going to need to figure out how to weld.

An Update:

I went to my art class yesterday where I generally draw my designs. I’m finally finalizing (finally finalizing, heh) one of the designs I hope to create for my Independent Study project. It’s sort of a simple design, the hardest part being the corset top and perhaps the feather-detailed top hat. I’ll be posting pictures of the stages of how I drew the design, ended with the finished rendering.

I’m also going to start sketching two mock lines for my college portfolio. I’m really excited about these and I think they have the potential to be really, really cool. Also, just out of curiosity…does anyone know how to build a metal hoop skirt? For science.

Thank you to my new followers, by the way! It means a lot that you want to follow my journey. I hope you stick around.

Let’s start this blog with an introduction.

My school hosts an independent study program, which basically means I choose a subject I’m really passionate about and get to work with a mentor towards an ultimate goal at the end of the year. This program allows me to have a structured format to learn and do anything I want.

I’m an aspiring fashion design student, currently stationed in my junior year of high school. I’ve always loved the fashion world. The industry. The art. And I’m absolutely sure that I want to join that and become a designer, I can’t see myself doing much else.

This blog was created as a way for me to document my progress through the year. Post my designs, sewing projects, new garments, and OOTD (Outfits of the Day). I hope you stick around and follow me down the rabbit hole.
